Nanjai Edayar Sankara Kandaswami Kandar dedicated his entire wealth to the cause of education and upliftment of the society. He took over an elementary school in 1924. The unfortunate demise of the founder in 1925 seized progress for a while. His dreams were made true through his will authorized by the court of law. The Kandaswami Kandar trust was registered under the Society Act. To make the dreams of the founder true the elementary school was upgraded in 1929. Kandaswami Kandar's College was affiliated with Madras University in 1962 and completed its 60th Anniversary as one of the oldest and most prestigious institutes in the Periyar University Region.
