The Department of Chemistry was established in 1969, initially offering the B.Sc. Chemistry programme. In 1995, the department expanded its academic offerings with the introduction of the M.Sc. programme, followed by M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in 2008. These programmes provide students with comprehensive training in theoretical concepts, practical skills and research methodologies across various sub-disciplines of chemistry.

With a dedicated and experienced faculty team, the department fosters a dynamic learning environment where students are encouraged to explore, innovate and contribute to advancements in chemical sciences. Equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities, the department provides ample opportunities for students to engage in experimental work, research projects and scientific collaborations, preparing them for successful careers in academia, industry and beyond.

To provide a strong foundation in chemical principles while nurturing critical thinking and analytical skills as well as promoting ethical, safe and responsible practices in scientific study.
